Just Show Up

I love this letter from Chuck Close to his 14-year old self. When he says, "Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work"... Isn't that so, so good? To produce anything... artwork, kindness, forgiveness, an egg sandwhich... its all about first
taking action.

"You don't have to invent the wheel everyday. Today, you'll do what you did yesterday. Tomorrow, you'll do what you did today. Eventually you'll get somewhere."

Friday Favorites

Well, you've probably heard me talking about how excited I am for the Olympics... uhhh, probably because I've been talking about it non-stop. I just love seeing people being patriots, pushing themselves, others believing in them... the crazy stories the media pull for us common folk. All of it. Love it.

So, five things that have me in the Olympic spirit:

A beautifully broken down butterfly. Gah, can you imagine being able to swim like that?

Oh, Londoners. I'd be excited, too.

To see these people in the village. yyyeaaaaahh.

And then I'd get something random to remember that moment.

And I'd take a break from Carly Rae Jepsen, and only listen to music

 Have a great weekend!

xo.

Rock on, its Friday.

Around Town...&Country

On my long run in Hudson River Park I saw this table. Loves it. Loves it.
I'm seriously thinking about joining Manhattan Sailing Club. And by joining, I mean learning how to actually sail.
Such a great park, and no one is ever there!
Let's do this. Michel vs Michele on the UWS.

Cloud exhibit on the MET roof
I think this is one of my favorite rooftop exhibits... right up there with the Bamboo exhibit.

Lil Chrissy and Michele date night.
If you want to sing "Up on the Roof" I'm right there with you.
Oh, hello there.
Hepburn and Peck in the Park. Perfection.
It was a little hot, a little crowded, but the city almost like knew there was a movie happening... It was so quiet.
Restaurant Week: Marble Lane at the Dream Hotel. How cool are these light fixtures?
Delaware River, here we come! Tuberdise 2o12.
Setting Sail on the Sound
So lovely.
Please note: not pictured: The Triple Creme Brie we had. Yo ho, Yo ho, a sailor's life for me.

Love it: Don't Forget to Play with Your Food

Olympic Excitement: The Golden Years

The last time the Olympics were held in London was 1948 -- the first Games after a 12-year hiatus caused by World War II. The United States sent more than 300 athletes, most of them arriving in England on the S.S. America. In London, they found a city wracked by years of bombings. A food-rationing program was still in effect. The organizers could not afford to build an Olympic Village to house the athletes. I love the NYT portfolio of athletes who represented the United States at the 1948 London Games.

It's so amazing to see how things change, and some things don't... So excited for this year's games and some new stories for the books.

And listen to this song really loud...

Lookin' on Up

So when Bissell and I were in Ireland, one day while she was driving, I kept saying, "Look at those clouds." "Whoa, look at those clouds!" "Whoa, those are amazing." Finally, she said, "Keskie, I don't think you see clouds enough. Those are just clouds."

Well, if that isn't the saddest thing, right?

When I got back to NYC, I realized... well, that's just the dumbest thing. I work on the 21st floor. I could see clouds all day. I just wasn't really stopping I was on vacation.

So since then there's been a lot of cloud pics on Instagram, a lot of blankly staring out the windows, a lot of looking up while walking. I have to say, cloud gazing is an amazingly peaceful part of nature in Manhattan. And to think I almost didn't know.

I was so excited to see this artist was inspired to create a reminder for others around the world to do the same. Pretty cool, Rob Sweere, pretty cool.
